John Elway can’t help but look back on the 2018 NFL Draft with regret. 

That was the year the then-Broncos general manager and football great passed on a chance to take star quarterback Josh Allen and instead with the fifth pick selected Bradley Chubb, who struggled to stay healthy in parts of five seasons in the Mile High City before being traded to the Dolphins.

Allen, of course, has been a dominant quarterback for the Bills after falling to pick No. 7, tallying 22,703 passing yards, 167 passing touchdowns and 53 rushing scores in his first six seasons with the Bills. 

The what-ifs still haunt Elway to this day, he revealed during an appearance on the Barstool Sports podcast, “Pardon my Take.”

“Last year I played [golf] with him and I was wondering, ‘How long is it going to take him to realize that I passed on him and took Bradley Chubb instead?’” Elway said. “And it took him two and a half holes to bring it up.

“And I loved him. But it just didn’t work out. He was my type. That was probably my biggest mistake of my GM days, was not taking Josh.”
