The game was less than an hour in the books, but the image of Josh Allen sitting on a stool in front of his locker, still dressed in his game uniform with his head in his hands, still lingers in my mind.
This was after the Bills were vanquished from the playoffs, 27-24 in the AFC divisional playoff round by the Chiefs last January in Orchard Park, N.Y., where Allen was the best player on the field, completing 26 of 39 passes for 186 yards and a TD, and rushing for 72 yards and two more TDs on 12 carries.
That moving scene left me wanting more for Allen.
Fast forward to this season: Allen, with some stout competition, is still the best player on the field for any team. To be more specific, and accurate, he’s the NFL’s Most Valuable Player, and should be honored as such when the regular season is complete.
