Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills shut out of NFL All-Pro first team

ORCHARD PARK – The Buffalo Bills may be the No. 2 seed in the AFC playoff bracket and owners of a 13-4 record, but the voters who choose the NFL All-Pro team didn’t seem to be all that impressed.

The prestigious team was announced Friday and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was picked as the starting QB over Josh Allen, another indication that voters have a love affair with Baltimore’s superstar.

Allen was chosen ahead of Jackson as the starting quarterback for the AFC’s Pro Bowl team, but that’s a different set of voters, one that includes players, coaches and fans.

The media selects the All-Pro team and many of them are also voting for the MVP award, and Jackson earning 30 of the 50 first-place All-Pro votes compared to Allen’s 18 could be a sign that he’ll also win his third MVP award.

To be fair, Jackson did have a superior statistical season. He completed 66.7% of his passes for 245.4 yards per game with 41 TD’s compared to just four interceptions, and he also rushed for 915 yards and four TDs. He led the NFL in TD percentage (8.6%), yards per attempt (8.8), and passer rating (119.6) so it’s pretty tough to argue against his selection.

Allen completed 63.6% of his passes for 219.5 yards per game with 28 TDs, six interceptions and a rating of 101.4 while rushing for 531 yards and 12 TDs.

The Bills were shutout on the first-team, and Allen was the only representative on the second team.

As far as players who received votes, Dion Dawkins finished third at left tackle, Christian Benford finished seventh among cornerbacks, Taron Johnson was ninth among slot cornerbacks, and Reid Ferguson was eighth at long snapper.

If nothing else, the overlooking of the Bills should give them some added motivation to make a playoff run which begins Sunday against the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos, by the way, finished 10-7 and are the No. 7 seed, yet they had three players selected to the first team – cornerback Patrick Surtain, offensive guard Quinn Meinerz and punt returner Marvin Mims. And they also had two selected to the second team in defensive tackle Zach Allen and edge rusher Nik Bonitto.
