A lot has changed in Jordan Spieth’s game since he turned professional in 2012 at just nineteen. Except for one thing. The man who carries his bag on the greens. Michael Greller has been caddying for Spieth since 2011, even before he turned professional. The pair were first seen at work together at the 2011 US Junior Amateur. The former maths teacher shares a close bond with the PGA Tour star. However, as it turns out, he has made a switch, which might be temporary, at least as of now.
The 2025 season will begin on January 2 with The Sentry at the Kapalua Plantation Course. And well, Jordan Spieth will continue his recovery process from wrist surgery and will not be a part of the season opener, despite making a few public appearances. While Michael Greller too was resting during all this time, he no longer will be off the course. For the 2025 Sentry, he will be caddying for none other than Max Homa.
As reported by Sean Martin, “Michael Greller has a new bag this week. He’s caddying for Max Homa at The Sentry. It’s just temporary. Greller’s boss, Jordan Spieth, isn’t in the field, and Homa needed a temporary fill-in. His longtime caddie, Joe Greiner, is expected to return later in the West Coast swing.” Even Jordan Spieth’s official X fan account, Spieth Legion, reported the same news.

This of course has left all the Jordan Spieth worried about him.
Jordan Spieth had a terrible 2024 season. He appeared in twenty-two events, and not only did he have no wins, but also he only had four top-25 finishes. The PGA Tour star also missed cuts in seven of the events. He was last seen at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in August where he finished at T68, and this did not allow him to qualify for the BMW Championship. This, however, turned out to be fruitful for him.
He has been suffering from a wrist injury since 2017. He did not get it fixed then, which led to the prolonged issue. He has been in terrible pain for the entire 2024 season, and thus he took the time off and utilised it for surgery. And it looks like, he is still recovering. One of them curiously asked, “Why isn’t he in the field?”

As for Max Homa too, it is going to be two years since he grabbed his last victory at the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open in January. He too is struggling to make it work. This season for him has been no wins, three top-10 finishes, and four missed cuts. Taking to this, one of them even asked, “So what happens if Max wins? Both players need a spark it seems this could be risky for all ”
A few fans were left confused it seems. One simply commented, “??????”
The beginning of a new season always brings suspects of fan-favorite players moving to LIV Golf. Given that Jordan Spieth has not been on the field for a long time, some fans are also worried that he might move to the breakaway league. Although time and again he has denied the rumor, so did Jon Rahm before leaving. Taking to this, one of them said, “Big deal or nothing to look into?”

Jordan Spieth and Michael Greller are widely known for having a long discussion before he sets off to hit any shot. They discuss every possibility, and Greller tries to put in every input that he has. But some of the fans take it as a negative practice. Taking to this, one of them said, “Oh great, Greller will now have another golfer to over-talk and agonize over every single shot like with Speith.”
