UNI’s Maya McDermott is always eager to play against Drake

Maya McDermott led Northern Iowa women’s basketball to history Wednesday night.
With a career-high 37 points, the Johnston alum led the Panthers to an upset win, 87-75, over No. 8 Iowa State.
She shot an impressive 14-of-21 from the field, 3-of-4 from behind the arc and 6-of-6 at the free throw line. McDermott also added five rebounds, four assists and three steals with just one turnover in 35 minutes.
The victory marked the UNI’s first over a top-10 opponent in program history.
Teammate Kayba Laube contributed as well with 21 points and six rebounds.
