The winningest coach in Michigan men’s basketball history is a fan of Dusty May and his program. Former coach John Beilein heaped praise upon May and his team following Michigan’s dismantling of UCLA at Pauley Pavilion, a game the Wolverines dominated on the way to a 94-75 victory.
I don’t think anything is slowing this team down. I just think they’re terrific. Dusty’s got some experience.”
– John Beilein
Beilein discussed how impressed he has been with Yale transfer Danny Wolf as well. He said he believes that Wolf, along with fellow 7-footer Vlad Goldin are playing like future NBA first round draft picks. Their pick and roll has become so smooth it is nearly unstoppable for opposing defenses. Wolf has exhibited the ability to pick and pop all the way to three-point range, or dive to the basket where he uses his size to score over smaller defenders. Goldin, fresh off a 36-point masterpiece against UCLA, has demonstrated incredible footwork and a soft touch around the basic.
May and the Wolverines are riding a four-game winning streak and are perched atop the Big Ten standings. For a program that garnered three Big Ten wins last year, this is an astounding turnaround. While the team has struggled with turnovers, averaging 15 per game, they have also found ways to take what the defense allows in winning big games. They certainly look like a team that can compete for the Big Ten title and potentially make a deep run in March.
