Jobs are everywhere – and an increasing number are concentrated in the Dallas metropolitan area.

On Friday, the Labor Department reported that employers added a better-than-expected 256,000 jobs in December, a sign U.S. growth remains resilient in the face of persistent inflation and generalized economic uncertainty.

Yet the Dallas-Fort Worth region is also a font of healthy jobs creation, official data shows, and the industries leading the way aren’t the usual suspects in energy and cryptocurrency. The Metroplex is teeming with new employment in financial services, education, health and trade, underscoring the region’s diversifying economy.

According to Labor’s latest snapshot of the region, overall nonfarm jobs in the region jumped by 64,500 year-over-year. The local rate of gains clocked in at 1.5 percent, edging the national average of 1.4.

In fact, Dallas-Fort Worth and the surrounding areas accounted for the lion’s share of new jobs in the state last year, and was second only to the New York metro area in terms of new employment creation.

Separately, Texas Workforce Commission data showed that out of a record 15.5 million seasonally-adjusted positions added to the state’s labor force, over 8 million of those were created in the DFW region, inclusive of Plano, Arlington and Irving.

Y’all Street anyone?

Finance was a big driver of the region’s private employment, with the sector adding over 15,000 jobs in November alone, and blowing past the national average.

“The 4.1-percent increase in the metropolitan area’s financial activities supersector, compared to the 0.6-percent increase on a national level,” the Labor Department notes.

Those numbers partly explain the anticipation behind the impending arrival of the Dallas Stock Exchange.

“Y’all Street” is hoping to capitalize on Dallas’ already established corporate clout, and an influx of workers from other regions that adds more talent to an already impressive pool of workers.

Other sectors experiencing big job gains included education, health, mining, transportation and manufacturing.

With semiconductors becoming a national priority, the tech sector also added a robust number of jobs, and continues to be a major source of new employment.
