More information is available about the general contractors chosen to be part of the $10 billion Meta AI plant in Richland Parish.
Louisiana Economic Development is directing those interested in positions on the project to them.
Those contractors are: Mortenson Construction, a general contractor headquartered in Minneapolis; DPR Construction, a company with 30 U.S. locations and three overseas offices that is headquartered in Redwood City, California; and Turner Construction, with headquarters in New York.
Mortensen is currently taking vendor inquiries for construction site services and building construction trades and its looking to fill multiple jobs from journeyperson electricians and ironworkers to surveyors.
DPR is also taking vendor inquiries, but has no jobs posted yet. According to the company, its Meta site work will begin in fall of this year.
Turner Construction says its site work will also begin in the third quarter. It has posted jobs ranging from equipment operator to senior safety engineer and assistant project manager, with more updates on specific work packages coming.
LED says Meta has promised to “make a concentrated effort” to source labor and materials locally.
Meta has estimated that the structures being built on 2,250 acres outside Holly Ridge will require 5,000 jobs at the peak of construction.
The 5,000 workers will far overshadow the estimated 1,868 population of Holly Ridge, the unincorporated community that will be in the shadow of the data center. Richland Parish’s 2023 population was 19,712.
At present, dirt work is continuing on a portion of the site. When complete, it will be the largest Meta AI facility to date, roughly equivalent in size to 70 football fields.
LED has reiterated that the state is not supplying or choosing vendors or employees for the project. It encourages anyone interested to contact the general contractors directly.
LED has established a sign-in portal for businesses potentially interested in being vendors to the Meta center. Businesses are asked to provide contact information and the services they can provide.
Once completed, the facility will directly employ 500. LED says the facility will also support more than 1,000 ‘indirect” jobs.
