Spartanburg football defeats J.L. Mann 35-9 to advance to the semifinal round of the SCHSL playoffs.
Greenville High School annouced its next football coach on Wednesday.
Steve “Scoot” Watson, who led J.L. Mann to a 10-3 season last year, will take over the Greenville program in 2025.
JL Mann lost to Spartanburg 35-9 last season in the playoffs, which ended its season.
“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Watson back home, as he has deep roots in the Greenville community,” Greenville athletic director Steve Scolamiero said in a statement. “Since 2002, Coach Watson has been making a significant impact in Greenville County football. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Greer High School, his alma mater. Over the years, he has also contributed as an assistant coach at various schools, including Greenville High School, Travelers Rest High School, St. Joseph’s Catholic School, and JL Mann High School.”
The Red Raiders finished 2-9 this past season under former coach Jaybo Shaw, who resigned at the end of the season.
