Jasmine Paolini has struggled for form during the early stages of her 2025 campaign.
The WTA number four was looking to back up a career-best year in 2024, but things haven’t gone quite to plan so far.
Paolini lost in the third round of the Australian Open to Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, 6-2, 4-6, 0-6.
The Italian star then traveled to the Middle East for the Qatar Open and Dubai Tennis Championships, the first WTA 1000 tournaments of the season.
Paolini fell to defeat against Jelena Ostapenko in the Doha second round, before suffering defeat at the same stage in Dubai.
Taking on America’s Sofia Kenin, Paolini injured herself but battled through the pain, valiantly losing 4-6, 0-6.
After the match, Paolini withdrew from the doubles competition where she was set to play alongside her partner Sara Errani.
Ahead of the next WTA 1000 tournament at Indian Wells, Paolini has updated fans on her condition.
Just a few short weeks out from Indian Wells, Paolini gave fans a fitness update ahead of the tournament kicking off on March 3.
“Hey,” she said.
“I took a few days off to rest and check on my foot.
“Feeling much better now.
“Back to training and getting ready for the tournaments in the US.”
She will have been disappointed with her performance in Dubai, having failed to defend her title from 2024.
The Italian star stormed to victory last year, dropping just two sets on her way to a maiden WTA 1000 crown.

Paolini will no doubt be looking to rediscover her 2024 Dubai form when she heads to Indian Wells next month, a tournament where she has yet to truly make her mark.
Making her debut at the event in 2021, Paolini has played ten matches in California to date winning six and losing four.
Arguably her greatest performance came against world number one Aryna Sabalenka three years ago, as she took down the now-three-time Major champion in a thriller.
Losing the first set 2-6, Paolini battle back to secure the highest ranked win of her career.
