Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz, the second seed, advanced to the second round of the Japan Open by edging out American Marcos Giron 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-4 at the Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on Wednesday.
Hurkacz, ranked No 8, will face the winner of the match between Jack Draper and Italian qualifier Mattia Bellucci next.
Hurkacz hit 17 aces during the match. The Pole had earlier announced that he would be donating 100 Euros for every ace he hit from now till the end of the season towards those affected by the floods in Poland.
