Creche of Jamestown is set to hold its second Fore! The Kids Golf Tournament on Sunday.

A local nonprofit with the focus on helping to improve the lives of children in southern Chautauqua County is set to hold their second Fore! The Kids Golf Tournament this Sunday.

Creche of Jamestown is a 501c3 nonprofit run by volunteers that was started by the Fenton family in 1900. Their mission is to help children in need in the southern part of the county, along with giving their members philanthropic and social work. Some of their oldest work includes continuing to raise money and make clothes for children at WCA during World War I and World War II.

This is the second year of the Fore! The Kids Golf Tournament, and Erin Tarana who spearheaded the event, said last year went very well so they decided to do it again this year. This year’s tournament is set to take place at the Chautauqua Golf Club on Sunday, Aug 18.

“We have new opportunities this year like a putting contest and the ability to win a car, which is sponsored by Shults Auto Group, and other course opportunities,” Tarana said. “100% of the funds go towards Creche and helping children in need in the southern Chautauqua County region.”

Tarana added that there are always many different and evolving needs in the county, and that the golf tournament helps Creche reach these needs and help children with them. All spots and sponsors in the golf tournament are already spoken for, but Tarana said there are always more opportunities to volunteer and help Creche, such as their rummage sale and collection throughout the year of baby items like diapers, wipes and clothes. They also accept monetary donations on their website, crecheforkids.org, at any time.

The Fore! The Kids Golf Tournament is one of Creche’s biggest fundraisers and helps them work closer to the goal of helping kids in the area. It also helps to provide funds for emergency needs like beds and bedding and other items like school supplies.

“It brings in a lot of income that helps us better serve local families and change with the changing needs of the area,” Tarana said.

For the golf tournament, Tarana said she hopes all of Creche’s sponsors feel heard and that players can come and have a great time, learn more about the nonprofit, and have a great time outdoors. The golf tournament is not limited to members, but Tarana said the nonprofit is always looking for more.
