Jalen Washington won’t play in UNC basketball’s game at Pitt on Tuesday night.
Washington’s injury occurred late in the Tar Heels’ overtime win against Boston College on Jan. 25. After scoring 18 points and grabbing six rebounds, the UNC junior center missed the final 3 ½ minutes vs. the Eagles.
The Tar Heels (13-8, 6-3 ACC) and Panthers (13-6, 4-4) tip things off at 9 p.m. from Pittsburgh in a game that will be televised on ESPN.
Washington had a strong offensive performance against Boston College, but he wasn’t in the starting lineup. To shake things up after back-to-back losses, UNC coach Hubert Davis rolled with a four-guard lineup around Vanderbilt transfer Ven-Allen Lubin against Boston College. RJ Davis, Seth Trimble, Elliot Cadeau, and Ian Jackson joined Lubin in the starting lineup for the Tar Heels. Lubin had three points, two rebounds, and four fouls against the Eagles, but Trimble returned to form in a double-double performance (18 points, 12 rebounds) as five Tar Heels finished in double figures.
Through 21 games, Washington is averaging 6.9 points, 5 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, and 17.6 minutes per game for the Tar Heels. James Brown and Ty Claude are the other traditional post players behind Washington.
