Jacksonville is expecting a new delivery, confirmed on Thursday, Jan. 9: Amazon has selected Jacksonville as one of the five locations in their recent expansions in the state.
A last-mile facility will be opened in Jacksonville, Amazon announced on Thursday.
According to a release, the new location will be part of Amazon’s investment in the state. It was also announced that a Same-Day Delivery facility will be in Kannapolis. The other three last-mile facilities will be located in Tarboro, Mount Airy, and Southern Pines. Amazon officials say the new investments will improve delivery speed for customers, boost local economic growth, and add more than 24,000 full- and part-time jobs. This is part of $12 billion that has been invested into the state since 2010, per Amazon.
The City of Jacksonville released the following: “North Carolina is a great place to do business and we’re proud to be expanding our operations footprint across the state through collaborative partnerships and our continued commitment to economic growth,” said Economic Development Manager for Amazon Sam Blatt. “We’re looking forward to better serving local customers, creating job opportunities for the talented workforce in this region and appreciate the support we’ve received from these communities.”
The four last-mile facilities in Jacksonville, Mount Airy, Southern Pines, and Tarboro will be part of the final stops in Amazon’s transportation network before packages are delivered to customers’ doorsteps. Employees sort packages according to delivery routes and Amazon delivery partners finish the shipping cycle by delivering goods like books, household items and toys to the customer.
The facility will be approximately 100,000 square feet, per the release, and be located in the northwest part of the city near the water treatment plant.
“Economic development and job creation are two of the City’s highest priorities to preserve the quality of life we enjoy here in Jacksonville,” said City of Jacksonville Mayor Sammy Phillips. “Over the past several months, we have had the pleasure of collaborating with Amazon to establish their presence in our business park, which advances both of those priorities. We welcome them to our community and look forward to their success here in Jacksonville.”
