JACKSONVILLE, Texas – At its meeting on Tuesday, February 18, the Jacksonville ISD Board of Directors approved Montey Stevenson as the district’s new athletic director and head football coach. He will begin his duties in Jacksonville on February 24, 2025.
Stevenson, who currently coaches at Alvarado High School, brings extensive leadership and coaching experience. Under his leadership as Assistant Head Coach, the Alvarado Indians reached the playoffs in the past two seasons. Throughout his career, he has served as an assistant head coach, defensive coordinator, athletic and academic coordinator, special teams coordinator, and head track coach. In 2024, Stevenson was part of the 6-4A Staff of the Year.
“We saw an impressive number of 87 high-quality applicants and then had a competitive interview process,” said Superintendent Brad Steward. “As a committee, we felt Montey Stevenson rose to the top and demonstrated the qualities we believe make him a perfect fit for JISD and our athletic programs. We are excited to welcome him, his wife, and their daughter to our district and community.”
Stevenson emphasizes building a positive culture as the key to success in any athletic program.
“Culture drives our expectations and beliefs, which shape behavior and habits,” said Stevenson. “My philosophy of coaching is about protecting, changing, and saving young people. This is done by creating an atmosphere of pride, tradition, and excitement. I strive to teach young people the importance of character, confidence, knowledge, goal setting, attitude, accountability, and how these factors apply to sports and life.”
A graduate of the University of North Texas, Stevenson holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. He is a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) and the Black Coaches Association.
Jacksonville ISD will host community events to welcome Coach Stevenson. Details will be announced soon. For more information, visit www.jisd.org
