LAIE, Hawaii – South Dakota State fell 71-57 to Georgia Tech Saturday afternoon at Cannon Activities Center on the Campus of BYU-Hawaii.
Both teams shot 38 percent from the floor, but the difference came at the 3-point line, where Georgia Tech connected on nine treys compared to four for the Jackrabbits.
SDSU moves to 3-2 on the season while Georgia Tech improves to 5-0.
Brooklyn Meyer and Haleigh Timmer contributed 12 points apiece to pace the Jackrabbits. Mesa Byom and Katie Vasecka each added nine points. Meyer also led the rebounding effort, tallying seven rebounds, following by Kallie Theisen with six. Brooklyn Meyer, Paige Meyer and Emilee Fox gave out two assists each.
Tonie Morgan put up 21 points for Georgia Tech, followed by Dani Carnegie with 16. Zoesha Smith grabbed 10 rebounds.
Georgia Tech led wire-to-wire after jumping out to a 5-0 lead. The sides traded buckets until the Yellow Jackets ended the first with an 8-2 run to lead 18-10. A 15-point GT run in the second quarter put them ahead by 19, 33-14. The Jacks worked back to within nine with a 14-4 stretch and trailed 39-28 at halftime.
SDSU came back within eight twice in the second half, first with a Paige Meyer triple straight out of halftime and again with a Mesa Byom 3-pointer halfway through the third. Georgia Tech answered with 10 straight to go up 18 again, 55-37. The Jackrabbits opened the fourth quarter with an 8-2 run but again let the Yellow Jackets pull away, this time with a 7-0 stretch to put the game out of reach.
