Following an impressive Qatar Open campaign, Jack Draper is not going to take any risks.
Therefore he has decided to withdraw from the ATP Dubai Tennis Championships, which commences on Monday.
The British number one returned this past week having not played since reaching the Australian Open fourth round.
Draper made an impressive run to the Qatar final, where three of his five matches went to a deciding set. As a result, he had to make a decision about his body.
The Qatar Open was just Jack Draper’s second tournament of the 2025 season.
The 23-year-old has suffered from injury and not practiced as much as he would have liked, which makes his performances all the more impressive.
But given his injury history and lack of matches, Draper is managing his schedule carefully and has opted to rest his body by withdrawing from the Dubai Tennis Championships.
“Unfortunately, I have made the decision to withdraw from the Dubai Tennis Championships,” Draper wrote on social media platform X.
“After a great week at @qataropentennis I’m taking onboard advice to prioritise my recovery and manage my body after a number of long matches, and give myself the best chance of competing consistently throughout the year.
“I’m gutted not to compete at such an amazing event but will look forward to returning to competition at Indian Wells and Miami.”
Draper was one of the players to watch when the 2025 season started following his breakout year in 2024 which produced two titles and a run to the US Open semi-finals.
He was due to commence his season at the United Cup, but injury prevented him from doing so and he began the campaign at the Australian Open.
Draper won three gruelling five-set matches to reach the fourth round, where he retired injured against Carlos Alcaraz.
After reaching the final in Qatar, Draper has plenty of positives to take from his campaign despite the defeat.
He will aim to use that momentum when he heads to the Untied States for the North American hard court swing.
