NORMAN, Okla. – Four student-athletes from the IUP men’s golf program were named 2023-24 Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division II Cobalt All-America Scholars, announced by the organization this week. Shaun Fedor, Cameron Gerue, Guillermo Salazar and Alex Swinnerton are among the honorees for the Crimson Hawks.
To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 78.0 in NCAA Division II and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
Fedor has put together a stellar academic and athletic resume in his impressive IUP career. A five-time All-PSAC and four-time GCAA PING DII All-Region selection, Fedor closes his career ranked fourth in program history in career scoring average (74.61) since record was kept in 2007.
A two-time PSAC Spring Top 10 honoree, Fedor was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® At-Large First Team in 2022-23.
Meanwhile, Gerue, Salazar and Swinnerton all receive their first Scholar All-American honor from the GCAA as sophomores in 2023-24. Gerue carded an average of 76.88 in 2023-24, becoming a staple for the IUP lineup down the stretch run of the season and into the 2024 NCAA DII National Championships.
Salazar is a two-time All-PSAC honoree in as many seasons, winning PSAC Championship medalist honors in October 2022. He boasts 15 rounds of par of better in his IUP career (66 rounds) and recorded 10 individual finishes inside the top-10 overall.
Swinnerton is a two-time All-PSAC and GCAA DII PING All-Region honoree since his arrival on campus. The 2022-23 PSAC Men’s Golf Freshman of the Year, Swinnerton has racked up five PSAC Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week honors since March 2023 and has eight career top-five individual finishes.
Under the direction of reigning PSAC Coach of the Year Dan Braun, IUP men’s golf has made consecutive appearances in the NCAA DII National Championships in 2023 and 2024. As a program, IUP has won 12 of the last 17 PSAC titles since the fall of 2007 and a conference record 32 championships overall.
The Crimson Hawks return to the course in September 2024, beginning the fall portion of the 2024-25 schedule.
