NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WAVE) – Indiana University Southeast is expanding its athletic program.
IU Southeast Chancellor Debbie Ford and Athletics Director Tod Bannister announced the addition of the men’s and women’s golf teams.
“We are proud to welcome women’s and men’s golf to Grenadier Athletics,” Ford said. “These new sports will give golf athletes a great opportunity to compete while learning in one of our outstanding academic programs.”
The men’s and women’s golf teams will each consist of approximately 10 student-athletes and are set to begin competing in the fall of 2025.
The IU Southeast Grenadiers are in the NAIA’s River States Conference with men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, volleyball, baseball and softball as varsity sports.
Their home courses will be Covered Bridge Golf Club in Sellersburg and Champions Pointe Golf Club in Henryville, which were both designed by PGA champion and New Albany native Frank Urban “Fuzzy” Zoeller, Jr.
“I am very excited and proud to support this initiative to broaden the opportunity for golf and sports, in general, to be utilized to expand the horizons of student-athletes,” Zoeller said. “The virtues of sports and golf, in particular, give our future leaders a well-balanced education while highlighting the fundamentals of teamwork, individual determination, honesty, humbleness, etiquette, and tradition.”
