Mike Woodson’s tenure as head coach at Indiana is coming to an end.
That’s according to a report by ESPN’s Pete Thamel on X.
“Indiana and coach Mike Woodson are in discussions about the coach’s wishes to step away at end of 2024-25, sources tell me/ @jeffborzello,” Thamel wrote on X. “He’s expected coach the rest of the year, but is unlikely to return next year. The details of the exit are being discussed.”
In a separate report on X, Jeff Goodman indicated the relevant parties are in agreement with what needs to happen, while also being considerate of the fact that Woodson is a former player.
“Indiana is trying to give Woodson the respect of going out the right away as an alum and “retiring”,” Goodman said.
There are many parties involved in a decision like this, including AD Scott Dolson, President Pam Whitten, the Board of Trustees, and key boosters.
“Everyone is now fine with it,” Goodman said via one source close to the situation. “All the boosters have come to terms with the fact that it’s time.”
If it ends as expected, Woodson’s time as the head coach of the Hoosiers lasted four seasons. He currently has a 77-49 overall record and a 36-36 mark in the Big Ten.
Indiana (14-9, 5-7) hosts Michigan on Saturday afternoon (1 p.m. ET, CBS). This news should help reduce some of the tension permeating the fan base ahead of that game, as everyone can now begin the process of looking forward.
This developing story will be updated.
