CAIRO – 31 July 2024: Palestinian media announced on Wednesday that Ismail Haniyeh’s body will be laid to rest in the Qatari capital, Doha, after Friday prayers, with a large public turnout expected.
On Wednesday morning, Hamas announced the martyrdom of its political bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran. The movement confirmed that an Israeli airstrike targeted Haniyeh’s residence, resulting in his death and that of one of his bodyguards.
The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) mourned the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, calling it a cowardly act in the Iranian capital. The PFLP emphasized that Haniyeh joins a host of Palestinian leaders and fighters who have fallen as martyrs for the cause of Palestine and its freedom.
The PFLP stated that despite the severity of this crime on the Palestinian people, their resistance, and their national movement, it underscores the reality of a difficult and prolonged battle with a treacherous enemy. This enemy does not hesitate to commit crimes and massacres against prominent leaders or innocent children and women.
The PFLP declared that the enemy is deluded if it believes that assassinating resistance leaders will halt the resistance, which has become deeply rooted among all Palestinians.
The PFLP pointed out that the martyrdom of leader Ismail Haniyeh is a significant loss to the Palestinian people and their resistance due to the crucial role he played in the resistance movement and in fostering unity.
However, the PFLP is confident that the resistance movement will only grow stronger, with such cowardly acts of assassination reinforcing their determination and belief in their rightful claim to their land.
They pledged to continue their resistance against the Zionist enemy, stating that all Palestinian leaders and citizens are willing to become martyrs for victory and freedom.
