The golf world is an ever-evolving place and we mean literally. We see golfers come and go every year. A bunch of them try to stick around and make a name for themselves. Currently, a new generation of talented young players is emerging in the world of golf. And one question is on everyone’s mind: who will be the next big star? While that is a tough question, we may have some clues. Charlie Woods and Luke Leonard, yes. These two are the names sure to pop up in any conversation having the same topic. Both of these golfers have been making waves in the golfing world. But the question remains: which one of them is better? A tough one, that is.
Charlie Woods and Luke Leonard are undoubtedly two of the most talented junior golfers making waves in the golfing world. Charlie Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, has absolutely crushed it in the junior golf world. This kid’s got game and the accolades to prove it. Like, he was named the 2020 SFPGA Jr. Tour Player of the Year. No big deal! He’s been racking up impressive finishes in tournaments. That includes a second-place spot at the Medalist Tour and a win at The SFPGA Junior Cup. With his dad’s legendary status looming large on him and the expectation from around the world weighing his shoulders, Charlie’s showing that he’s got the talent and drive to forge his own path in golf.
And then there’s Luke Leonard, who’s been flying under the radar but making waves in the junior golf scene. Luke has also been making a name for himself on the Benjamin School golf team, and his stats are all the proof we need. He’s got a win under his belt against John Carroll Catholic, and he’s been holding his own against tough competitors like Jupiter Christian High School.

What’s really standing out, though, is his steady improvement and dedication to the sport. The kid’s got heart, and it’s paid off with a coveted spot on the Benjamin School golf team. If you check out his BlueGolf profile, you’ll see he’s been busy competing in tournaments like the SFPGA Winter Kickoff and the Medalist Tour. And he’s even snagged some top-20 finishes along the way. But here’s the thing about Luke: he’s not flashy, he’s not seeking the spotlight. But he’s consistently delivering solid results, which makes him a dark horse to watch in the world of junior golf.
The comparison between Charlie Woods and Luke Leonard is an interesting one, as both golfers have unique strengths and weaknesses. Charlie’s experience and success in high-profile tournaments give him a slight edge. And well, and Luke’s father also agrees with that, well, technically.

Justin Leonard, a seasoned golfer, discussed Charlie Woods, the 14-year-old son of Tiger Woods, during a media event for the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship. Charlie and Leonard’s son, Luke Leonard, paired together in a junior club championship in Florida. And Leonard got to watch them play. “That was fun,” Leonard said, recalling the experience. “They go to the same school, although they’re on different campuses. He’ll be a freshman, so they’ll be at the same school.”
Leonard even got to chat with Tiger Woods about junior golf and shared some laughs about their kids’ games. “It was cool. It was fun to watch him. It was fun — I enjoyed not only watching my son play, watching Charlie play because he played great, and then talking about junior golf with Tiger for nine holes and little things that we see in our kids that they need to work on or whatever it may be.”

Leonard was impressed by Charlie’s skills. Particularly a shot he made on the 12th hole, a par 5, which reminded him of Tiger’s signature style. “There was a shot that Charlie hit into 12, which was a par 5, this beautiful high-like soft cut, looked like a 3-hybrid or something,” Leonard recalled. “Landed on the green, and it stopped dead. There might have been a little bit of a club twirl at the end of it, and I walked by Tiger, I go, ‘Okay, a lot of that looked very familiar,’ and we both had a good chuckle.” Leonard also enjoyed watching his own son, Luke, play and seeing him improve his game.
