If the first women’s college basketball Sunday of February was a sign of what’s to come, then buckle up folks. The show is just getting started. Here’s a closer look at some of the top results of the day.
Iowa pulled off a massive 76-69 upset over No. 4 USC in front of a packed Hawkeye arena handing the Trojans just their second loss of the season. The thrilling upset was the perfect lead-up to Iowa legend Caitlin Clark’s jersey retirement ceremony following the game — an occasion which the entire arena and both teams stuck around for.

Led by Lucy Olsen’s 28 points and 10 rebounds, the Hawkeyes never looked back after taking an early 18-4 lead in the first quarter. Despite USC’s best efforts to get in rhythm, including a 27-point performance from Juju Watkins, they couldn’t overcome their 18 turnovers.
The Trojans struggled early, shooting just 35.4% from the field in the first half, while Iowa capitalized on their mistakes by getting out in transition and controlling the tempo. USC mounted a comeback in the second half, but Iowa held firm with Olsen’s clutch scoring. She shot 10-of-18 from the field and hit 8-of-9 free throws, including key makes down the stretch to seal the win.

Despite USC’s fast-break points and some late-game defense, Iowa’s superior shooting (44.6% from the field) and steady free-throw shooting (75%) kept the Trojans at bay. The win is a huge boost for Iowa, who proved they can go toe-to-toe with the best. With the victory, Iowa improves to 15-7 overall and 5-6 in the Big Ten while USC drops to 19-2 on the season and 9-1 in Big 12 play.
No. 2 South Carolina kept their SEC streak alive with an 83-66 win over Auburn in Columbia, SC. The Gamecocks looked in complete control from the opening tip, while the Tigers fought hard but just couldn’t keep up. South Carolina built a comfortable lead early on, wrapping up the first quarter at 23-18 and stretching that to 40-30 by halftime.

The Gamecocks were firing on all cylinders. They shot an impressive 57.1% from the field and were almost flawless at the free-throw line, hitting 14 of 16 shots (87.5%). Joyce Edwards led the charge with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, and MiLaysia Fulwiley came off the bench with 17 points and 4 assists. Raven Johnson also contributed by adding 9 points, 7 assists, and 6 steals, proving to be a key playmaker throughout the game.
Auburn had its moments, thanks largely to DeYona Gaston, who poured in a game-high 31 points while shooting 14-for-22. Mar’shaun Bostic and Yuting Deng each contributed 10 points, but the Tigers couldn’t overcome their issues with ball control, turning the ball over 23 times. Auburn’s bench support was almost non-existent compared to South Carolina’s, which added 39 points from their reserves. Even though the rebounding battle was close —South Carolina pulled down 27 boards to Auburn’s 26— it just wasn’t enough to close the gap.

With this win, South Carolina improves to 21-1 overall and stays perfect in SEC play at 9-0. The Gamecocks continue to set the bar high as they chase a top seed in the NCAA Tournament. Auburn (11-11, 2-7 SEC) will look to bounce back as they face another tough stretch of conference games.
No. 3 Notre Dame dismantled Louisville in the second half of Sunday’s matchup, winning 89-71 behind guard Hannah Hidalgo’s season-high of 34 points. She joins Jewell Loyd as the only Notre Dame (19-2 overall, 10-0 ACC) player over the last 15 seasons to score 30 points in back-to-back games.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle mixed in with games of Hot Potato — 23 combined turnovers. By the break, the Fighting Irish and Cardinals were separated by just one point, with ND leading 39-38.
However, Notre Dame flipped the game on its head in the second half, outscoring them 50-33 and limiting them to 31.3% from the field. Hidalgo built on her already impressive 18-point first-half performance by dropping 16 points, four rebounds and three assists in the second.

Guard Olivia Miles and forward Liatu King helped carry the load with Hidalgo, both scoring 12 points in the second half and finishing with 17 and 16 respectively. Louisville had zero players notch double figures in the second 20 minutes of play.
The Fighting Irish won their 14th straight matchup and improved to 10-0 in ACC play, while Hidalgo caps off a week to remember. She scored 30 points with five assists last Thursday against Virginia Tech. Louisville drops to 15-7 on the season and 8-3 in conference play.
