Iowa basketball is on the board in the 2026 class.
On Monday night, Iowa United Prep 2026 combo guard Navon Shabazz announced his commitment to Iowa over Iowa State, Wake Forest, and a slew of other programs. Shabazz is the first commitment in the Hawkeyes’ 2026 class.
Shabazz was in Iowa City this past weekend for an unofficial visit, and that’s when Iowa was able to seal the deal.
“Shabazz is all of 6-foot-4 and is a very gifted athlete,” wrote 247Sports’ Sean Bock. “He is a physical guard when he wants to be, is improving as a shooter, and can also set up teammates well off the dribble.”
Shabazz will play for Iowa United Prep this season after helping lead Davenport Assumption to a Class 3A State Championship as a sophomore. The 6-foot-3 Shabazz averaged 15.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game this winter as a sophomore. He is shooting 44 percent from the field and 38 percent from three as a sophomore for the Knights.
Iowa continued to make Shabazz a big priority in the 2026 class and did the best job in this recruitment. Iowa is looking to continue to keep that momentum going in the 2025 class as it looks to land a couple of top targets that have been on campus in recent weeks.
“They can see me being able to control the offense and that I’m an unselfish player. I can play the point and the two guard spot,” Shabazz said when he got the offer. They see me being able to play in the system. The offer had a big impact on me. Iowa City is 40 minutes from where I live, so that’s good for my family.”
