The IndyStar Sports department won 11 APSE awards in the annual national competition, including a triple crown for our top 10s in Event coverage Projects and Print Portfolio.
Nathan Brown, Gregg Doyel, Dana Hunsinger Benbow and Nate Atkins contributed to the top 10 for our coverage of the Indianapolis 500; IndyStar’s Indy 500 coverage been in the top 10 all for years the honor has been awarded. Dustin Dopirak, Hunsinger Benbow, Atkins and Binghui Huang were recognized for our project on the NBA All-Star game.
Atkins also won four individual awards — Beat Writing, Breaking News, Explanatory and Long Feature — for his coverage of the Colts. Hunsinger Benbow took top 10s in Explanatory and Long Feature. Gregg Doyel (Columns) and Grace Smith (Feature photo) received top 10s as well.
