BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti is long past the “crisis roster situation” he inherited when he took over in Bloomington.
He had to use the transfer portal to replace entire position groups after taking over, but the Hoosiers had minimal attrition after reaching the college football playoff outside of the players who exhausted their eligibility.
The Hoosiers head into National Signing Day with a roster that includes 10 returning starters (five on offense, four on defense and one on special teams) and more high school signees than transfer additions. It highlights the progress Cignetti made on balancing out a roster that featured 30-plus seniors in 2024.
He left himself room to bolster IU’s roster in the spring portal as well.
Last year, the Hoosiers signed cornerback D’Angelo Ponds and defensive tackle CJ West in the spring. Ponds was a Week 1 starter for the Hoosiers while West made it hard for the coaches to take him off the field with the way he played down the stretch.
