BLOOMINGTON — The Indiana men’s and women’s basketball teams won’t be wearing the newly designed “Fear of God” alternate uniforms this season, per a university spokesperson.
The women’s team planned to wear the specially designed Adidas jersey Thursday night against Ohio State at Assembly Hall. The men were planning on wearing them Feb. 26 against Penn State.
“Indiana men’s and women’s basketball programs will not be wearing the Fear of God uniform design in any upcoming games. IU will continue to proudly wear Adidas apparel, including our traditional basketball uniforms,” IU athletics said in a statement provided to The Herald-Times.
No reason was given for the decision.
Adidas partnered with IU and Miami last year to launch the Fear of God Athletics’ NCAA Collection. The company’s founder Jerry Lorenzo designed the uniforms and warm ups for the teams. The women’s team wore the charocol black jerseys with red block lettering in a 86-69 win over Iowa last season along with the Fear of God Athletics One Model premium basketball shoe that retailed for $250.
This year’s Fear of God jersey was beige with similar red block letter.
Indiana put out videos of the men’s and women’s teams receiving their new Fear of God apparel on their social media channels Wednesday, but those videos that were taped earlier in the week have since been taken down. The decision to scrap the uniforms was made Thursday afternoon.
The Hoosiers ended up wearing their traditional white jerseys against Ohio State.
