There will be at least one new coach in the Big Ten next season.
Fourth-year Indiana basketball coach Mike Woodson will not return next season, according to numerous reports.
Peegs.com, 247Sports’ Hoosier source confirmed the looming decision on Friday. Indiana has not made an announcement.
Woodson, a former Indiana captain under Bob Knight, was hired before the 2021-22 season, replacing Archie Miller.
He arrived after an NBA career that included 11 years as a player and 25 years as a head coach and assistant coach.
Armed with one of the top NIL payrolls in the country at one of college basketball’s historic programs and biggest brands, expectations were high, but Woodson has yet to really win in Bloomington.
The Hoosiers are 77-49 during his tenure but missed the NCAA Tournament last season and are currently on the outside looking in this year.
Indiana made the tournament in Woodson’s first two seasons, earning a second-place Big Ten finish in 2022-2023, but didn’t make the second weekend.
Woodson is 0-10 vs. ranked teams in the last two seasons. Indiana (14-9, 5-7) was ranked No. 17 in the preseason AP Top 25. Woodson’s team has lost four games in a row, most recently at Wisconsin on Tuesday.
During IU’s 25-point loss to Illinois on Jan. 14, there were loud boos and audible chants of “Fire Woodson” in Assembly Hall.
Indiana’s next two games are against two of the top teams in the Big Ten: Michigan and Michigan State.
