Illegal gambling has continued to create nuisances and other concerns throughout the city. An establishment in the 2200 block of East Avenue landed on officers’ radar after receiving complaints from area residents and, later, observing suspicious activity of their own. During an ongoing investigation, officers began developing additional information and gathered evidence, confirming their suspicions about what was happening at the location.
After establishing probable cause, officers executed a search warrant on the illegal establishment yesterday at approximately 5:00 p.m. Officers forced entry after individuals inside refused to open the door. Once inside, officers detained several subjects after observing signs of illegal activity. Seized were over a dozen electronic gambling machines, eleven thousand dollars in cash, multiple televisions, several cell phones, a loaded handgun that was
later discovered to be stolen, and other property.
Arrested were three men who ranged in age from 32-58 years old. Each of the arrestees was charged with illegal gambling, while one of the men received an additional charge for operating an illegal gambling house.
The 58-year-old male was released with a summons, while the other two were later booked into the Summit County Jail.
