INDIANAPOLIS — Andy Sweeney and Jimmy Cook, two on-air personalities for Indy’s top sports talk radio franchise 93.5/107.5 The Fan, were laid off by Urban One on Monday.
Sweeney, part of “The Wake Up Call with KB & Andy,” joined the morning show with co-host Kevin Bowen in August 2023. Sweeney was replacing Jake Query, who moved from mornings to the noon to 3 p.m. slot.
The midday show “Query & Company” includes a rotating round of guests and featured Cook as Query’s co-host.
Urban One, which owns The Fan, did not immediately respond to a request for comment from IndyStar. However, on Tuesday’s show Query alluded to a tough media industry and Sweeney posted to X: “Fewer things exemplify sports radio than receiving positive recognition (@Barrett_Media top 20 list) and it being over 15 mins later.”
Sweeney, an Indiana native, came to Indy after spending 13 years as the host of “The Take with Andy Sweeney,” as well as the program director on ESPN Louisville.
“There’s no way to describe how excited and grateful I am. I’m ready to roll,” Sweeney posted to X when he landed the job nearly 18 months ago. “I describe this station as mighty. It is a dream come true. Let’s go.”
Cook has spent the past 6 years at The Fan talking sports and said in an X post that it never felt like work.
“I look forward to this next adventure,” he posted, “whatever it may be.”
