HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — Led by a top-15 finish from 36-hole co-leader Herman Huus, App State Men’s Golf placed 10th among 18 teams at the Wexford Intercollegiate.
Huus tied for 14th place with a 3-over total (68-72-79—219), while Alex Martin tied for 23rd place at 7 over (78-70-75—223).
The Mountaineers had a 38-over total as a team (299-294-309—902).
Huus was tied for first place after his 4-under 68 in an opening round that featured eight birdies, including six birdies in a late seven-hole stretch. He reached 7 under as the sole leader through 25 holes and was tied for first with a 4-under total through 36 holes.
Martin’s second-round 70 led the team, and he also led the way with a 75 in the final round.
Ben Read tied for 35th place at 10 over (76-74-76—226), while Colin Browning contributed to the team score each day (77-78-79—234). Ben Locker also participated, shooting his best score in the second round.
Xavier’s Ray Filter won the individual title by two strokes with a 5-under total, and Xavier was the team champion at 1 under, eight shots ahead of USC Aiken.
The 2024-25 season is presented by Hound Ears Club. The Mountaineers are back in action Sunday and Monday at the Dorado Beach Collegiate in Puerto Rico.
