NEW DELHI: Ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana expressed that participating in such events presents a significant opportunity for her team.
Bangladesh are set to begin their Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 journey against Scotland in the tournament’s opening match on Thursday.
Sultana emphasised that the tournament will be a chance for Bangladesh to showcase their talent to the world. She also mentioned her aim to secure victories in every match.
“It is a huge opportunity for the team, playing this kind of event in front of the world, to show the talent and the potential we have. Individually, this will be my fourth T20 World Cup for Bangladesh, but I’m yet to win a game – so first and foremost, as a team or as an individual player, my goal is to get a win,” Sultana said, as quoted by the ICC.
She further highlighted their ambition of making it to the semi-finals.
“That will give us momentum we can use throughout the tournament as we try and push for a semi-final spot,” she added.
Bangladesh are part of a competitive Group B, where they will aim to create a few upsets and progress to the knockout rounds.
Other teams in the group include England, Scotland, South Africa, and the West Indies.
After a disappointing loss to Sri Lanka in their first warm-up match in the UAE, Bangladesh bounced back with a win over Pakistan, a result that boosts their confidence ahead of the tournament.
