The third round of the PGA Tour Golf event, the Genesis Invitational, tees off on Saturday with an exciting leaderboard battling it out for the win this weekend.
With Torrey Pines’ South Course hosting the event and a $20 million prize purse, American golfer David Thompson sits atop the leaderboard heading into the weekend at eight under par, shooting a fiery six under par in the second round to get to this point.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler shot five under par in the second round and heads into the third round in second place at seven under par. Fellow American, Denny McCarthy is at six under par and in third place while fan-favorite Rory McIlroy rounds out the top four at five under par, shooting five under par all on Friday.
How to Watch The Genesis Invitational Third Round:
Other golfers in contention this weekend are Patrick Rodgers at four under, Ludvig Åberg at four under par, and Nicholas Dunlap at three under, all within five strokes of the leader, Thompson, setting up for a very exciting final couple of rounds at the Genesis Invitational.
Hideki Matsuyama is the reigning winner of this event but he is currently tied for 34th at two over par, so his chances of repeating appear slim at the moment. Meanwhile, the 2021 winner of the event, Max Homa, missed the cut after shooting seven over par over the first two rounds. Three-time major winner Jordan Speith likewise missed the cut, shooting six over par on Thursday and Friday.
