WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Detroit Pistons are trying to prove they are taking strides at beating a reputable team in the NBA. They have a chance to pick up another win on Sunday when they visit the Washington Wizards.
Though the Pistons put up a good fight in a losing effort to the Milwaukee Bucks last Wednesday night, they came out with a gutsy effort again on the road on Friday. Against the Toronto Raptors, Malik Beasley had another great effort, helping Detroit get out to an early lead, carrying a three-point cushion heading into halftime. They were able to rally back from a third-quarter deficit to steal a 99-95 win, moving them to 2-0 in NBA Cup play.
Along with Beasley’s 20 points, Cade Cunningham and Tobias Harris each posted double-doubles. The Pistons are currently seventh in the Eastern Conference, eight games back of first-place Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Wizards have been sluggish to begin the 2024-25 season. They opened up their NBA Cup schedule on Friday night, losing in convincing fashion to the Atlanta Hawks, 129-117. It marked Washington’s seventh consecutive defeat, as they have not won a game since before Halloween. The Wizards are down in 13th in the East, one game ahead of the Raptors for last in the league standings.
These two teams met four times last year, with the Pistons and Wizards splitting the regular-season series.
