The Detroit Pistons play at home for the first time in 13 days tonight, hosting the hot Miami Heat, winners of four in a row and 8-of-11.
The Pistons have lost four of their past five, including a 123-99 setback Thursday at Boston, when Ron Holland, the fifth pick in this year’s draft, scored a career-high 26 points to lead Detroit.
Cade Cunningham leads the Pistons in scoring (23.6) and assists (9.3) and is averaging 7.3 rebounds. Tyler Herro leads Miami in scoring (24.2)
This is the third and final meeting between the teams, who’ve split two games, each winning at home. The Pistons beat the Heat 123-121 in overtime on Nov. 12 in an NBA Cup game. A bizarre finish saw the Heat get slapped with a technical foul for calling a timeout when they had none left in the OT. Malik Beasley made the tiebreaking free throw with 1.1 seconds remaining.
That win snapped the Pistons’ seven-game losing streak against the Heat, who have won 12 of the past 15 meetings between the teams.
The Pistons will be without Tobias Harris (hand), who is averaging 13.9 points and 6.9 rebounds. The Heat are missing Nikola Jovic, Pelle Larson and Josh Richardson due to injuries.
