The fourth and final ATP Grand Slam of the year is here; the 2024 US Open is officially underway in Queens.
2023’s men’s singles champion Novak Djokovic returns to defend his title just weeks after taking home Olympic gold; if he repeats at this year’s US Open, he’ll win a record 25th Grand Slam title. Djokovic is the second seed at the bottom of the men’s singles draw, while the No. 1 seed is Jannick Sinner, who avoided suspension despite a positive drug test.
It’s been 21 years since an American man has won a Grand Slam, but No. 13 seed Ben Shelton could change that. The 21-year-old, who appeared in last year’s semifinal with a 149 mph serve, is seen as the USA’s best bet at snapping the Grand Slam drought.
In the women’s draw, defending champion Coco Gauff is a player to watch in the No. 3 seed; Iga Swiatek is ranked No. 1, with Aryna Sabalenka at No. 2.
