The 2024 Hero World Challenge, hosted by Tiger Woods, got underway on Thursday (December 5), with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler once again coming out on top in 20-man field at Albany Golf Course in The Bahamas.
Although the Hero World Challenge is sanctioned by the PGA Tour, it doesn’t formally recognise the winner, and the tournament doesn’t carry FedEx Cup points or official money.
The 2024 PGA Tour season officially ended at the RSM Classic on November 24, although this week’s event gave us the opportunity to see several of the world’s top stars in action for the first time since the Tour Championship in early September.
That included FedEx Cup winner Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay and Keegan Bradley, while the likes of Justin Thomas and Wyndham Clark were playing just their second tournament in the last couple of months.
World No. 5 Ludwig Aberg, the second highest-ranked player, continued his recovery from knee surgery having made his return at the RSM Classic.
Despite being the host, Woods didn’t playing this week, claiming he isn’t “tournament sharp”.
In keeping with how most of 2024 has gone, Scheffler was the winner at Albany Golf Course, taking home $1 million of the $5 million total prize purse.
The New Jersey-born star finished six shots clear of Tom Kim, his nearest challenger, who picked up $450,000 as the runner-up.
As mentioned, the money doesn’t count towards any money lists, although there are world ranking points on offer.
