At the 2025 Team Cup, Justin Rose’s Great Britain & Ireland team dominated their counterparts from Continental Europe to ultimately reign supreme at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
Already leading 11-4 after three sessions across two days, GB&I wasted little time in wrapping up the result on Sunday via successive victories in the first four singles matches.
While the majority of the remaining matches were closer, it was Rose’s men who were able to look back on a successful week and claim revenge for the defeat they tasted back in 2023.
The fixture, which was reintroduced two years ago in order to give European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald a chance to cast his eye on hopefuls for the upcoming contest at Bethpage Black, saw several established stars play their part while a handful of others certainly made their case for a potential wildcard pick at Bethpage Black.
Almost guaranteed to be on the plane to New York in September is Tommy Fleetwood, but that didn’t stop the Englishman from laying it all on the table in Abu Dhabi.

Coming into the final session as one of four players out of 20 to boast a perfect record, Fleetwood ended Sunday as the only golfer to maintain that feat after he saw off the previously unbeaten Matthieu Pavon 3&1 – ultimately securing the vital point needed for victory.
Tom McKibbin and Romain Langasque were the other two players in the exclusive club before the singles session began, however, both lost their respective matches to remain on three points.
Among the other top point-scorers in the 2025 Team Cup were Tyrrell Hatton and Paul Waring, ending the week unbeaten on 3.5 points, respectively. Hatton beat Thorbjorn Olesen 3&1 in their head-to-head battle on the final day while Waring thrashed Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen 4&3 to become the fifth and final GB&I player to triumph on Sunday. The English trio of Fleetwood, Hatton and Waring were the only unbeaten players after four matches apiece.
At the other end of the scale, despite making no secret of his burning desire to qualify for Team Europe’s Ryder Cup dozen, Matt Wallace finished last in terms of points for GB&I – scooping just 1.5. However, he was not far behind his captain who recorded two points and both Jordan Smith and Aaron Rai on 2.5.

On the Continental Europe side of the contest, two of Francesco Molinari’s men ended the week without scoring even half a point – Julien Guerrier and Neergaard-Petersen.
Molinari, himself, only managed half a point – as did Rasmus Hojgaard – while Matteo Manassero and Antoine Rozner moved off zero thanks to their respective singles victories.
