A fantastic Saturday of college football was followed this weekend by a great Sunday — Week 7 of NFL football. The games were solid throughout the day, and the evening was capped off with former Oregon Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert’s best game of the season — although the Los Angeles Chargers still found a way to lose.
Since he entered the NFL, Herbert hasn’t been able to get any help from his supporting cast on offense, and that was never more apparent than on Sunday night. At one point, Herbert completed a deep pass for what should’ve been a touchdown, only for the receiver to lose a fumble on the 1-yard line.
The biggest Oregon story of the day, however, was Marcus Mariota. All season Mariota has backed up the Washington Commaders’ rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, but after Daniels suffered an injury this week, Mariota stepped in. He ended up playing lights out, leading the Commanders to their fifth win of the season and helping them retain possession of the sole lead in the NFC East.
