Team India closed out the five-match T20I series at home against England with a statement 150-run triumph over the tourists at the fabled Wankhede in Mumbai on Sunday. The men in blue completed a 4-1 triumph over Jos Buttler and Co with the victory.
Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was in attendance at the stadium to bear witness to the game. He was joined by his father-in-law, Narayana Murthy among other big names present at the game.
After the conclusion of the game Sunak took to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to share his impressions.
“Tough day for England at the Wankhede but I know our team will come back stronger,” the former PM said.
“Congratulations to Team India on the win,” the post continued.
Sunak also exchanged a couple of word with the skippers of the respective teams Suryakumar Yadav and Jos Buttler ahead of the game and wishes the two the very best.
“Despite the result, it was an honour to meet @josbuttler and @surya_14kumar before the match and a pleasure to watch the cricket with my father-in-law,” the 44-year-old added.
India, who were put to bat first by Buttler after the English skipper won the toss, romped their way to a mammoth total of 247 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20-over quota thanks to a sensational innings from young opener Abhishek Sharma, who hammered a dominant 135 runs in quickfire fashion to take the English bowlers to the cleaners.
India added sheen to their showing in Mumbai with a strong bowling performance to back their essay with the willow as the hosts bundled a hapless England out for a paltry total of 97 runs in just 10.3 overs. Phil Salt’s Lone Ranger innings of 55 off 23 proved to be nothing more than a consolation in a game England were absolutely outclassed.
Abhishek was named the man of the match, while spinner Varun Chakravarthy took home the player of the series honours for his incredible showing throughout the campaign.
