‘It’s never too late to go to school and live your dream …’
Veronica and John Hernandez, of Manchester Township, share their post-graduation goals before the York College of Pennsylvania winter commencement ceremony at Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center in Spring Garden Township, Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024.
Gamblers at Hollywood Casino York are big fans of sports wagering but seem to be cooling on table games.
A huge increase in revenue from betting on sporting events helped the Springettsbury Township casino post a nearly 6% increase in overall revenue for 2024.
Hollywood Casino York brought in about $106 million for 2024, $6 million more than last year, according to figures released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
Revenue from wagering on sporting events saw a 191% increase last year, going from just over $3.4 million in 2023 to more than $10.1 million in 2024.
The casino saw a more modest 2.5% increase in revenue from slot play last year, $82 million compared to just over $80 million in 2023.
Table game revenue, however, was down more than 18%, amounting to about $13.5 million compared to $16.6 million in 2023.
For the first time ever, the state surpassed $6 billion in gambling revenue, bringing just over $6.1 billion, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. In 2023, the state brought in nearly $5.7 billion in gambling revenue. The figure consists of the combined revenue of slot machines, table games, sports wagering, iGaming, video gaming terminals and fantasy contests.
The taxes on that revenue, along with the annual slot machine license operation fees, brought in just over $2.6 billion through all forms of gaming and represents the highest amount of revenue returned to the commonwealth in a calendar year.
Springettsbury Township also gets a cut of Hollywood Casino York’s revenue.
The township budgeted for more than $1.8 million in casino revenue for 2025 — a 3% increase from last year — which would be the most it has received annually since the gaming facility opened in 2021 at the York Galleria.
Last year, higher-than-expected casino revenues allowed the township’s Board of Supervisors to cut its real estate tax rate.
