AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – As you travel for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, remember these safety and traffic tips while on the roads or in the air.
Thousands of people hitting the road for Labor Day.
During this time, officials say speeding and car crashes are higher than usual.
That’s why Georgia State Patrol is on high alert right now, making sure you’re safe on the road.
We spoke with Captain Michael Burns with Georgia Department of Public Safety about what they see during this time of year.
Captain Burns says troopers investigated nearly 600 crashes last year.
He says he believes increasing presence will help bring those cases down.
”Even if, if that you know, particular Trooper is not stopping a car, just the the car itself and the visibility, that really increases our chances of of trying to slow everybody down and decrease these crashes,” Burns says.
South Carolina Highway Patrol says its crash numbers have gone down this time of year compared to last.
