HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) – Big changes are coming to the Crossings Golf Club in Henrico County.
The Henrico Economic Development Authority acquired the site on Thursday and will lease it to Pros, Inc., a local sports and events marketing firm. The Henrico Sports & Entertainment Authority is also part of the partnership.
Pros, Inc. is planning for major changes to the course to attract professional tournaments and to be used for college and high school teams.
“All of us at Pros, Inc. are honored to be a part of the team to collaborate on bringing a new golfing and entertainment experience to Henrico that will serve the residents and business community of this region. We appreciate the energy, creativity, and vision that we have experienced in our discussions with the Henrico EDA and Henrico SEA and look forward to getting started on this project,” said Pros, Inc. President Giff Breed.
The Crossings Golf Club, which is near the interchange of I-95 and I-295, originally opened in 1960 and has gone through several name changes over the years.
Steve Schoenfeld from the PGA TOUR and Executive Director of the Dominion Energy Charity Classic says an updated Crossings course could bring a professional event to the facility.
“As we saw with the 2023 Dominion Energy Charity Classic’s $34 million economic impact, having a golf course of this caliber in Henrico can provide a significant boost to the greater Richmond region’s economy and, potentially, a new home for PGA TOUR sanctioned events,” he said.
Sports tourism is a booming business in Henrico. The 17,000-seat Henrico Sports & Event Center opened last year and has hosted thousands of people at events so far.
“Adding a championship-level golf course to our inventory of public facilities will elevate Henrico’s sports tourism program to the next level,” said Fairfield District Supervisor Roscoe D. Cooper III.
