Hello Sunshine has entered into a first-look deal with Ross Greenburg Productions to develop and produce unscripted content centered on female sports, Variety has learned exclusively.
Hello Sunshine, a Candle Media company, will work with RGP to add to their existing roster of unscripted female sports projects like “Surf Girls” at Amazon and “F1 Academy” at Netflix.
“Ross is one of the most respected sports producers in the industry,” said Sara Rea, head of unscripted at Hello Sunshine. “He is a talented and trusted creative that has a keen eye for great stories and an unmatched record in the world of sports. We are thrilled to partner with Ross and we already have some exciting projects in development together.”
Greenburg previously spent 30 years at HBO Sports, serving as president of the network from 2000-2011. He has executive produced a wide range of women’s sports documentaries in his career, including “Dare to Compete: The Struggle of Women in Sports,” “Dare to Dream: The Story of the U.S. Women’s Soccer Team,” and “Billie Jean King: Portrait of a Pioneer.” He also created groundbreaking sports series like “Hard Knocks,” “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel,” and “On the Record with Bob Costas.”
“I am beyond excited to collaborate with the team at Hello Sunshine and their brilliant leaders Sarah Harden and Sara Rea on a range of female-oriented unscripted sports projects,” said Greenburg. “We are in the midst of a women’s sports revolution and now is the time to dive in and pull out the poignant stories of these past and present athletes.”
Greenburg has won 56 Sports Emmys and eight Peabody Awards in his career. He was inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2022. He formed RGP in 2011 and has since produced a wide range of programming across broadcast, cable, and streaming platforms.
Hello Sunshine’s other recent unscripted efforts include “My Kind of Country” at Apple TV+, “Meet Me in Paris” and “Meet Me in Rome” for Roku, “Love in Fairhope” at Hulu, and “Making the Cut” for Prime Video.
