Those interested in a career in health and fitness can watch it take shape with Salisbury University (SU), which offers both undergraduate and graduate programs through The Universities at Shady Grove (USG).
The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) program in exercise science combines the biomechanical, psychological and physiological aspects of exercise to give students a multidisciplinary background that prepares them for numerous career paths. Building on this, SU also offers a Master of Science (M.S.) in health and human performance, designed to prepare leaders in the fields of health care, wellness and fitness. The program offers three possible areas of focus: cardiovascular/pulmonary rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, and fitness/wellness promotion.
Situated in a convenient location, the USG campus provides students with a supportive learning environment where they can thrive. Small classes allow students to receive personalized attention from faculty mentors, who get to know them personally and collaborate with them on research and other hands-on learning experiences. USG’s proximity to Washington, D.C., also provides numerous opportunities for internships and networking in various settings, allowing students the opportunity to build on the knowledge and skills they learn in the classroom.
Choosing USG for a Master’s in health and human performance has the same benefits as the undergraduate program, such as internships and hands-on learning opportunities, as well as offering courses in the evenings to allow those who work during the day more convenient options to pursue an advanced degree. The graduate internship provides students the opportunity to intern with diverse organizations, including hospitals, health clinics, university athletics, sports organizations, and wellness programs.
SU offers students the opportunity for undergraduate exercise science students to adopt the Five-Year Combined B.S. exercise science/M.S. health and human performance program as their major, allowing them to earn both degrees in just five years.
The campus at USG offers a unique and enriching educational experience with its collaborative environment, diverse academic offerings and perspectives, state-of-the-art facilities, and commitment to providing students with the skills and knowledge needed for success in their chosen fields.
Graduates of USG’s exercise science program are prepared for diverse career paths in fitness and wellness, clinical exercise physiology, sports performance, rehabilitation, public health and research. With a master’s in health and human performance, SU alumni have gone on to work as sports performance coaches, clinical exercise physiologists, health promotion specialists and corporate wellness managers, as well as being accepted into Ph.D. programs.
