INDIANA, Pa. – The Hawks secured an 83-59 victory over Goldey-Beacom Sunday afternoon at the KCAC.
IUP started strong, shooting 53% from the field in the first half to build a 43-33 lead. By the end of the game, the Hawks maintained a .472 shooting percentage from the field and .769 from the free-throw line and recorded 13 steals. IUP nearly doubled Goldey-Beacom’s total shot attempts.
Weaver led the way with 17 points in the first half, shooting 7-8 from the field and grabbing six rebounds, five of which were defensive. Strayhorn contributed eight points and three steals, while Marin Miller and Lily Jordan combined for nine points and a steal each.
In the second half, Weaver added seven points and three rebounds to finish with 24 points and nine rebounds overall. Strayhorn totaled 19 points, two rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Jordan contributed 10 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. The Hawks’ bench provided a solid boost with 21 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.
Weaver opened the scoring for the Hawks with a layup off a pass from Grace Centrulla. She followed with seven straight points for IUP, extending their lead. Madison Zavasky finished a quick layup from a Miller assist at the 2:39 mark. The first quarter concluded with a Weaver layup and a Goldey-Beacom tip-in, giving IUP a 21-16 lead.
Jordan was passed the ball at the beginning of the second and turned around to knock down a jumper. Miller inbounded the ball to Zavasky for a quick layup and one. Jordan scored again, her second basket of the second quarter.
At 4:46, Miller drained a three-pointer to push the Hawks ahead 33-24. Strayhorn closed out the second quarter with two layups, extending the lead to 12 points before Goldey-Beacom scored in the final seconds, to send the teams into halftime with IUP up 43-33.
In the third quarter, Janeira Scott hit a three-pointer at 7:49 for her first points of the game. Strayhorn followed with a three-pointer of her own. Weaver’s layup at 6:16 gave the Hawks their largest lead of the night at 56-35, a 21-point advantage.
IUP maintained control through the fourth quarter, with Strayhorn widening the gap to 23 points with just under seven minutes left. Macie Jarrett knocked down an open three-pointer, and Zavasky sealed the game with a steal and fast-break layup to conclude the game 83-59.
