Jayson Tatum‘s jump shot has been a hot topic this summer. The three-time All-NBA First Team selection hit a rough shooting patch in April which lasted for the entirety of the playoffs and throughout the 2024 Paris Olympics. Shooting slumps are normal for players, and while Tatum’s slump has lasted far longer than anyone anticipated, he’s unlikely to continue struggling from the field for much longer.
During a recent news conference during the Boston Celtics media day, Tatum confirmed that he’s been working on his shooting mechanics with his trainer, Drew Hanlen. Tatum noted that he’s been focusing on his hand placement, shoulder positioning and getting lower during his load-up.
In a recent episode of the “CelticsPod” podcast, host Tim Sheils discussed Tatum’s media day comments before looking at some highlight footage from the opening day of Bostons training camp. Tatum’s shooting mechanics looked to be smoother, with a quicker shot release at the apex of his jump, leading Sheils to postulate that the Celtics star could hit the ground running next season.
