After making his official NBA debut with the San Antonio Spurs earlier this week, former UNC basketball standout Harrison Ingram was sent to the team’s G-League affiliate to get him some experience as he officially begins his professional career.
Through two games, Ingram has been ballin, making the most of his opportunity to play a significant amount of minutes.
On opening night for the Austin Spurs, Ingram was super impressive. The former Tar Heel recorded 21 points, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block while connecting on 9 on his 15 shots from the floor. Like we saw during his lone season in Chapel Hill, Ingram showcased his ability to impact the game in multiple ways.
To follow his opening night performance, Ingram arguably was even better in his second outing.
As we saw him do multiple times as a Tar Heel, Ingram recorded his first double-double of his professional career, finishing the game with 16 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and two steals in the Austin Spurs’ victory over the Osceola Magic.
Ingram was a good basketball player before he even stepped foot on campus in Chapel Hill, but his season with the UNC basketball program is one that seems to have greatly impacted him. Playing the “stretch four” for the Tar Heels allowed him to work on his rebounding skills, something he’s benefitting now from at the professional level.
If Ingram continues playing like this, the Spurs will use his two-way contract wisely to provide him the opportunity to gain some experience with the NBA squad. From there, Ingram will look to prove that he belongs in San Antonio as a full-time member of the Spurs.
