Barcelona boss Hansi Flick offered an update on Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo ahead of tomorrow’s Copa del Rey semi-final tie with Atletico Madrid.
Yamal has emerged as a doubt ahead of the game, after suffering a minor injury against Las Palmas, but Flick is hopeful he can feature.
“We’ll have to wait and see, I think he’ll be able to play. I’m positive, but we’ll have to see what the doctor says,” he told a pre-match press conference.
Flick also says that all players need to be protected after Yamal showed off a bloodied sock after the weekend’s match.
“We can’t say that Lamine or certain players should be specially protected, it should be for everyone. If they don’t get yellow cards, hard fouls will be repeated,” he added.
“We should protect them, I think that’s the most sensible thing to do. Not just some special ones, but everyone. In Spain we all like to see one-on-one situations, to see those players who are capable of getting past the defenders, we have to protect them.”
Barcelona have had to take care with Dani Olmo this season too, and Flick says he could start against Atletico and coming off the bench to score at Las Palmas.
“I think he can be a starter, but it is also more important to say that we have to take care of him. Progressively, the goal he scored in Las Palmas was a very important one,” he added.
