The pool of Sunday’s mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow
6 at Gulfstream Park is estimated to be $4 million or more.
Sunday’s sequence begins at 2:45 p.m. EST with race 6, a
one-mile turf event for 4-year-olds and up, and concludes with race 11, a
maiden special-weight event at a mile on the turf for 3-year-old fillies.

Race 6, 4-year-olds and up, 1 mile, turf
This is an evenly matched group of older horses. King d’Oro
(4-1 morning line) has won two of his last three including one on the grass and
is 9: 2-3-2 in turf races. Irad Ortiz Jr., who won aboard the 5-year-old last
time, returns. Michael Maker saddles Inflation Nation (6-1), who won his last
race in October over Aqueduct’s turf. Tyler Gaffalione rides. Brian Lynch
saddles Royal Salute (15-1), third at Gulfstream last time off a two-month
layoff.
Race 7, 3-year-old maidens, 1 1/16 miles, main track
Trainer Todd Pletcher has the two top choices. He saddles 2-1
favorite Adventurist, a $500,000 son of Curlin making his debut with Ortiz, and
No Escape (5-2), second in his debut at Tampa last month. Murabeh was fifth in
his debut at Gulfstream on the turf for Saffie Joseph Jr., who is a 25% winner with
maidens making their second start.
Race 8, fillies and mares, 1 1/16 miles, turf
A dozen go to the post including Diamond Vega (7-2), a Chad
Brown-trained mare, making her second U.S. start after racing in the U.K. and
Germany. Ortiz rides. Anybody But You, a 4-year-old filly, won her debut at
Gulfstream last month for Brendan Walsh. Movin’ On Up and Spinning Colors might
show speed.
Race 9: 4-year-olds and up, 6 1/2 furlongs, main track
Bold Journey is the 9-5 favorite, but he makes his first
start since finishing 10th in March in the Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1). Bill Mott
trains, and Gaffalione rides. Breaking just inside is Cyclone Mischief, who
just missed last time for trainer Dale Romans at Churchill Downs. Ortiz rides.
Mr Skylight could be coming late.
Race 10, 4-year-olds and up, 5 furlongs, turf
Another wide-open field of 12 with Jefe de Obra the favorite
for trainer Wesley Ward, who missed by a nose last time over the same course
and distance. John Velázquez is aboard. Tap Gold, trained by Rohan Crichton,
has three wins and two seconds in his last five starts over turf and Tapeta.
Born Flashy gets blinkers for trainer Ian Wilkes and jockey Édgard Zayas.
Race 11: 3-year-old maiden fillies, 1 mile, turf
A very competitive group with tepid 3-1 morning-line
favorite Brown Sugar, a $400,000 daughter of Twirling Candy who finished third
in her debut at Churchill Downs despite a troubled trip. Blinkers go on Sunday,
and so does jockey Luis Sáez. Moon Gate (7-2) was competitive in two prior
starts at Aqueduct and Saratoga for trainer Christophe Clément. This will be
her first race since July. Javier Castellano rides. Leading trainer Saffie
Joseph Jr. saddles Candy Buzz (12-1) with Gaffalione and Champagne Brunch (4-1)
with Ortiz. Classic Q was fourth in her debut at Gulfstream for trainer Mark
Casse last month.
On mandatory-payout days, the entire Rainbow 6 jackpot pool goes
to the bettor or bettors with the most winners in the wager’s six-race
sequence. The carryover jackpot is paid only when there is a single unique
ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70%
of that day’s pool usually goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the
most winners, and 30% is carried over to the jackpot pool.
